Inauguration events are the big news this month!  And Illinois is celebrating big time!

  • Tuesday, January 7  Swearing in of Senator Richard J. Durbin for a second term in the United States Senate! reception and television viewing, 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Russell Senate Office Building, Room 189, Washington DC 

  • Sunday, January 12   Governor-Elect and Mrs. Rod Blagojevich Family Barbecue, 1-4 p.m. Orr Building on Illinois State Fairgrounds, 801 East Sangamon Avenue, Springfield, Illinois. Free, open to public, but must have tickets.

  • Monday, January 13   Inauguration of Rod Blagojevich as governor, Patrick J. Quinn as Lt. Governor, Lisa Madigan as Attorney General, Jesse White as Secretary of State, Daniel W. Hynes as Comptroller and Judy Baar Topinka as Treasurer, 11:00 a.m. Prairie Capital Convention Center, Springfield, Illinois

  • Monday, January 13, 2:30 p.m. - 4 p.m. -- Open Houses for all officials, open to public.

    • Governor and Lt. Governor Open House at Executive Mansion

    • Attorney General Lisa Madigan Open House at Office of the Attorney General, 500 South Second

    • Secretary of State White Open House, State House, Room 213

    • Comptroller Daniel Hynes Open House, State House, Room 201

    • Treasurer Judy Baar Topinka Open House, State House, Room 219

  • Monday, January 13  8:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.  Inaugural Ball, Exposition Center on the Illinois State Fairgrounds (Tickets $35/person)  A second ball has been arranged to accommodate those wanting to attend.

  • Annual Vermilion County DEMOCRAT PICNIC
    will be held 1-4 p.m. Saturday August 23 at Kennekuk County Park, Mallard Point.  Bring a covered dish.  Meat and drinks will be provided.  Invite your Democrat family and friends; open to the public.

  • House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi to be in Springfield and Decatur for Lane Evans events.  More details!

  • LABOR DAY PARADES WERE CANCELLED

  • Oct 16 Kiwanis Annual Pancake Day
    Palmer Arena 6am til 8pm; tickets $4.50/ book of 4 for $15

  • Oct 18 Potomac Masonic Lodge Annual Pancake and Sausage Breakfast

    7:30pm; $10 for floor seats, $8 for side seats

  • Oct 20 Vermilion County Democrats regular monthly meeting

  • Oct 24 Chicken and noodle dinner at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church,
    Corner of Market and Honeywell Streets, Hoopeston
    4:30-8pm; tickets $6

  • Oct 25   Atrusa and Waldenbooks Book Fair, Village Mall, to benefit YWCA Women’s Shelter 10am-9pm

  • Oct 25-26  Kickapoo Karvers 21st Annual Show, Daville Inn (former Ramada)  10am-4pm

  • Oct 26 Mammoth Tea and Concert sponsored by Carter Metropolitan CME Church; 4:00pm; $15 Laura Lee Fellowship House

  • Oct 26  Roast Beef Dinner at Holy Family School in Danville 11am-5pm

  • Oct 26  Indianola Methodist Church Dinner in the Country 11am-1pm
    Turkey or swiss steak with all the trimmings and great pies

  • Oct 26 Mammoth Tea and Concert sponsored by Carter Metropolitan
